Syndrome aware mitigation of logical errors

by Dorit Aharonov, Yosi Atia, Eyal Bairey at al.

A novel approach to logical error mitigation, syndrome-aware logical error mitigation (SALEM), combines quantum error correction with error mitigation to enhance the scalability and reliability of quantum computations. By incorporating syndrome measurement data into the mitigation process, SALEM significantly reduces the runtime overhead associated with existing methods.

This approach enables substantially larger circuit volumes and improved accuracy compared to standard techniques, including post-selection. The results further show that combining error correction and mitigation can deliver strong performance even beyond regimes traditionally considered suitable for error correction alone.
